I created the ValeFest Ticketing website, iOS app, and Android app to speed up wristband collection, using custom digital tickets to provide a consistent design matching our other marketing materials for attendees, and also providing an easy to use platform for committee members to use.
The app uses QR codes for tickets, which students can access using their receipt number and student ID, and then save to their phone via a screenshot or Apple Wallet. The scanner app then keeps track of redeemed tickets, and uses a HMAC to reduce ticket fraud (in addition to the website requiring the user to complete a CAPTCHA before obtaining their tickets). Data is uploaded to a central server, allowing other scanners to keep track of current attendee numbers.
The website and apps successfully handled over 3,600 attendees, including sharp spikes in traffic during the lead-up to the event.
The platform was created specifically for the festival, but feel free to email me if you’d like to find out more about the project.
